Animal Testing Should Not Be Banned - 1203 Words

Animals are the main experiment testers. They are seen as the most similar organism next to humans. With the same bodily functions as humans, animals are viewed as the perfect option for testing out new medicines, food, perfumes, makeup and even household products. Or are they? Animal testing is a very controversial topic. While it ensures the safety of product lines, the testing on animals is inhumane and cruel and there are alternative methods. In this paper, I will discuss the reason animals are the chosen factor in experiments, what is done to them during the experiments, and other ways to approach the testing of products while ensuring safety of the public. The kinds of animals tested on include rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, hamsters,†¦show more content†¦The gruesome results of this are abdominal pain, seizures, diarrhea, and even leaving the animal paralyzed. The animal also bleeds from the mouth, nose, and genitals. Eventually, the high dosage kills them. However, this test has never been confirmed that its results are 100% accurate. A study showed the results of fifty chemicals and these tests came out with only a 65% prediction in toxicity. On the other hand, human cells have the ability to predict toxicity with 75% accuracy. Another example is the Draize eye and skin irritation test. Rabbits are the primary subjects in this experiment. Their entire bodies are restrained so the substance can be easily dripped into their eyes, or their fur is shaved and the product is put there (peta.org). The Draize eye test, used by cosmetics companies to evaluate irritation caused by shampoos and other products, involves rabbits being incapacitated in stocks with their eyelids held open by clips, sometimes for multiple days, so they cannot blink away the products being tested (procon.org). The consequences of this particular test include inflammation of the skin, bleeding, ulcers, irritated eyes, swollen eyelids, and not surprisingly blindness. Again, the pro bability of the results from this test being correct is not guaranteed because of the way the test is performed by unalike laboratories. Religion has and will always be a controversial subject to address. In society today with so many different religions available to practice one should not be attacked or treated differently for their religious beliefs when they enter the workforce. Under the First Amendment, Americans enjoy two freedoms with respect to religion: the right to be free from government-imposed religion and a right to practice any religion they choose to. When it comes to fairness, I think it is fair that they come to our culture and adapt. It is only fair that we adapt to their culture. For example, in Muslim culture most women wear hijab and long clothing to remain modest...would it be fair when for an employer to ask the Muslim employee to remove their hijab at work. I think so. Tolerance and acceptance of religious view are the two most important things one should have in the work place. America is a large melting pot. We all are different and unique. Those particular things go for the workplace also. As a young adult, I must exspress that I do, in fact, enjoy the talk about religion in the workplace. I find it interesting to learn about other religions and beliefs. Conversation in the work place never hurts anyone. Its when disrespecting someone religion, thats when things begin to go wrong. After talking to some neighbors and friends, my husband decided to purchase a Tort 235 MPH blower. The customer service representative talked him into purchase the extended warranty service as well. After analyzing, the product decided to give it a rating from one to ten on the following specs: ; Quiet and powerful – 8 – The Tort blower is more powerful than most handheld gas-powered blowers are. The cords also get tangle very easily around bushes and rocks having to frequently stop to free it. ; Vacuum bag awkward. – 3 -the vacuum tube attachment is quite long and with the bag over your shoulder is very uncomfortable. The vacuum gets clog up very easy with wet leaves and it gets to be a burden because we have to take it apart to unclog it. ; Extended Warranty Service- 1 – The motor burned out on this unit Just two months after we purchase it. Trying to get a hold of a live person seems to be a challenge; we either get an automated service saying that we are calling after hours, to leave a message or to call during business hours. If we called during business hours, we either were put on hold for a long erred and after that, we got someone on the line that could hardly speak English, a total disappointment. After reviewing all the pros and cons of the Tort blower, I would rate this product at a five because even If works great on dry leaves It Jams very easily with wet leaves. It Is very uncomfortable to use for a long period due to the cord- getting tangle up easily around bushes and the vacuum attachment are too long making It Is very uncomfortable.
